Youth Chaplaincy - The Light Bearers
Who are the Light Bearers?
The Light Bearers are a group of primary and secondary school pupils who support the pastoral and spiritual life within the academy and local community.
The Secondary Light Bearers are the youth Chaplaincy Team at St Matthew Academy, led by Miss Eduvie (chaplaincy staff member and science teacher). They have the unique opportunity and privilege to live out their faith in action. The Light Bearers do this by planning and leading collective worship in addition to prayer and bible themed assemblies. Furthermore, they also act in and direct short plays, skits and videos about key biblical messages, support younger pupils through the Light Bearer buddies initiative and lead on and contribute to the school’s charity events.
There are currently Light Bearers in years 8, 9 and 10 and they meet on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday lunchtimes respectively. Their focus alternates each week between working on ways to serve their school community and exploring their own spirituality.
The Primary Light Bearers are a team of children from across the primary phase who are role models for the SMA values and help to share the Word of God.
The vision of the Light Bearers is to encourage other students to let their light shine throughout their school life and beyond by being living examples of a lifestyle of worship, service and love for God and their neighbours.
The Primary Light Bearers meet every Wednesday and run the Light Club lunchtimes. The Light Club gives all the children in the primary phase the chance to worship and reflect and to discuss some of the challenges we face as young people in our world today.
