Macmillan fundraiser 2020 Ready, Steady, Bake…

The show went on for Macmillan fundraiser 2020 Ready, Steady, Bake…

We were not going to let the current environment stop us from doing our bit for charity, and to kick off the year we got straight to it with a St Matthew style bake-off for Macmillan Cancer Support. Unfortunately, we were unable to invite all of our wonderful families and local communities to enjoy it with us this year, but the event was thoroughly enjoyed by all pupils and staff.

We swapped the classroom for our very own ‘Bake-off tent’ the kitchens of St Mathews Academy. And in a COVID safe manner, we hosted our very own ‘Bubble Bake Off’, with the theme of the occasion being Fairy Cakes!

Which bubble was crowned the Star Bakers of St Mathew Academy?!

It was an eventful and a thoroughly enjoyed Bake Off. The children worked through the recipe to make the fairy cakes, carefully measuring out the ingredients and trying to mix the right combination. They were then were encouraged to get creative when it came to decorating them.

There were some interesting variations of the classic ‘Fairy Cake’ put in front of the judges. One bubble produced what resembled a Soufflé and another decided to add icing sugar to the core ingredients! Fair to say there were a few soggy bottoms but equally as many ‘nice bakes!’

This year’s Star Bakers went to Year One Dragonfly Bubble.

Thank you to everyone who supported our Macmillan fundraiser, we raised a massive £193.66. This will go towards the great work that Macmillan do in supporting those who have or are impacted by cancer from the moment of diagnosis.
