House Update – 2020 / 2021

It has been a very busy academic year for the Heads of Houses who have been delivering a variety of competitions to ensure that pupils feel part of their wider school with Covid-19 restrictions, whilst offering numerous opportunities for pupils to develop leadership and teamwork skills, and encouraging all to make a difference to their local community.

In October 2020 we launched our first competition in support of the annual Harvest Festival.  Pupils across the school brought in food to donate to Lewisham Foodbank. In the secondary school alone, we were amazed to receive over 900 items in just one week! Well done to Teresa House for donating the most items and winning 30 House Points, and thank you to all the families to donated – you support really is valued.

At Christmas we partnered with three local charities chosen by our secondary House Leaders and organised a second donation drive for service users at The Salvation Army, Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust and Action for Refugees Lewisham. We donated over 125 items including toys, sweets, books, and warm clothes – well done to Mandela House for donating the most items and winning 50 House Points!

In December we also launched ‘SMA’s Got Talent’ to celebrate the many amazing skills of pupils across the school. Well done to Glory (Year 6 – Romero) who won 1st Prize for her singing and Salem, Washington, and Zion (Year 3 - Romero and Teresa) who won 2nd Prize for their dance act! In secondary Hanako (Year 8 – Teresa) won 1st Prize for her artwork and then Demilade (Year 7 – Mandela) won 2nd Prize for her singing. Well done to all involved!

In January 2021 to encourage our pupils and staff to support their mental health and stay active – we launched year group weekly step competitions. Each week pupil and staff in secondary are encouraged to get moving and compete for a spot in their year group Top 10. We will keep you updated with the weekly and half term winners!
