Service to Others: How St Matthew Academy Inspires a Life of Giving
At St Matthew Academy, charity lies at the heart of our Catholic mission, reflecting the Gospel call to love our neighbour and serve those in need. We believe that charitable action is an essential expression of our faith, and we encourage all pupils to live out this commitment through compassion, generosity, and a sense of responsibility for the wider community.
Our Service to Others ethos inspires a wide range of charitable initiatives, from visiting local care homes and supporting food bank collections to taking part in the Big Lent Walk for CAFOD, responding to global crises such as Hurricane Melissa, and contributing to campaigns like the Poppy Appeal. Throughout the year, our school community also comes together for events including the Christmas Tea Party, the Staff Giving Tree, Christmas bag collections for the Salvation Army, Christmas Jumper Day, and other seasonal acts of giving. Through these experiences, our pupils learn that charity is not only a core value of the Catholic Church but a meaningful way to grow in empathy, strengthen community, and make a positive difference in the world.
