Black History Month
As we come to the end of Black History Month, we are delighted to share some of the inspiring learning that has taken place across our classes. At St Matthew Academy, our curriculum is carefully designed to reflect the diversity of our pupils and the community we serve. Diversity is woven throughout every subject and celebrated all year round, ensuring that every child feels valued, included, and welcomed.
We are proud to celebrate Black History not only in October but throughout the entire year, recognising and honouring the incredible contributions individuals have made to shaping our world. We believe that by learning about and celebrating diversity, our children develop a deeper understanding of inclusion, respect, and representation.
At St Matthew Academy, we celebrate all cultures and beliefs as part of our everyday teaching. To further strengthen this commitment, we have moved our annual Cultural Day to May, aligning it with our secondary phase so that we can celebrate our rich cultural diversity together as one united community. We want every child at St Matthew Academy to know that they matter - and to always let their light shine.
As we continue through our curriculum, we remain dedicated to ensuring that every second counts and that diversity continues to be at the heart of everything we do.
Please visit our Instagram and Facebook pages to see some of the fantastic work our pupils have produced this half term — from powerful speeches and clay pots inspired by Magdalene Odundo, to creative fact files on elephants from Sri Lanka, and even a parent-led EYFS workshop exploring the importance of Carnival!
At St Matthew Academy, we are incredibly proud of our vibrant, inclusive community. Together, we will continue to learn, celebrate, and shine.
