Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award

Duke of Edinburgh Award Practice Expedition

On Saturday 12th May - a cloudy morning - 21 pupils made from Years 9 and 10, started their practice expedition around the Farnborough, Keston and Biggin Hill areas.  It started to rain very early on and the going across country was difficult but the pupils, encouraged by staff at the checkpoints and by our head teacher Ms Baldwin who walked with all the groups, carried on tirelessly to reach the camp site.
After a hot meal and a good night’s sleep, the rested pupils woke up on Sunday morning to start on the return leg to the pick-up point with the sun on their backs. All groups made it back safely with a total of around 12 miles covered over both days. The whole walk took the pupils around ten hours and needless to say, there was silence in the minibus on the way home! A little sore and very proud, the pupils arrived back at school looking forward to the real thing!
