Shrove Tuesday is a Christian festival celebrated in many countries across the globe. It falls on the Tuesday before the beginning of Lent – a period of around six weeks leading up to Easter. During Lent, Christians give up luxuries to remember when Jesus went into the desert for 40 days to fast and pray.

To celebrate this year, we called in a team of experienced pancake making parents, to make enough pancakes for the whole of our Primary phase. Our pupils brought in loose change to purchase a pancake and top it with their favourite combination of toppings.  But if that wasn’t enough, we attempted the historic shrove Tuesday tradition of Pancake Races! Pupils raced up and down the playground with pan and pancake in hand, some even attempting a few pancake flips on route. It was a truly fun day, with the smell of pancakes still scenting the school corridors.

This year's proceeds have gone to CAFOD and The Childrens Society – a big thank you to all for your support and a MASSIVE thank you to the parents who gave up their time to come and cook all the delicious pancakes!

Fun Fact:  Pancakes have become such a popular Shrove Tuesday tradition that on this day, a whopping 52 million eggs are used in the UK alone! That’s 22 million more than your average day.
