Meet Our Staff
We caught up with some of our staff members to find out why they were inspired to teach at St Matthew Academy and the aspects they value in their career, with us.
“I was inspired to work at St Matthew Academy after attending the academy as a student myself and witnessing the high standards of teaching and dedication from staff. I wanted to teach to make a difference to young learners’ lives and SMA has enabled me to the fulfil this. Through opportunities to lead on programmes throughout the academy and developing my experience in teaching cross-phases, I have had the best possible to start to my career."
“I joined the academy through the Teach First Programme and almost immediately, knew that this was the academy I wanted to teach in for the rest of my career. From the close-knit atmosphere enabling every staff member to know pupils’ names and diverse school body to the charitable ethos and supportive staff network, it is truly a unique and rewarding place to work. I look forward to completing my Masters next year, with the support from SLT and the academy."
Head of Department
“I started my career at SMA 11 years ago as a Teaching Assistant, and watching outstanding practitioner’s day in, day out and imparting knowledge, further cemented my desire to teach. I was offered the opportunity to complete the Graduate Teacher Programme and career progression in my role followed. Senior leaders place great emphasis on CPD prospectus and encouraging staff to grow within their role and further their career."
“Working at an all-through enables staff to learn from and support one another. We connect with staff and utilise facilities throughout the school, developing our pedagogy from reception through to Year 11, developing our skills as teachers and sharing best practise and providing a unique, integrated and seamless learning experience for every student."
