Bumblebees Explore the Forest

Bumblebee Class at the Forest School!

At St Matthew Academy, we are incredibly lucky to have our very own Forest School onsite, allowing for an array of opportunities to learn beyond the classroom and pupils to engage in outdoor learning activities. In January, Bumblebee class ventured to the Forest School with Mr Saunders, where they played hide and seek and searched high and low for different insects. As they lifted logs, pupils discovered woodlice, slugs and much more, and discussed the effects winter had on the pond, which had frozen over. Pupils watched as Mr Saunders broke the frozen pond, to allow birds to drink the water and our resident dish to come to the surface. The visit provided an interesting learning opportunity for pupils to gain a greater understanding of the seasons and animal habitats.
