Academy in poll position
Students at St Matthew Academy went to the polls on Wednesday to vote for the next Young Mayor of Lewisham.
A special polling station was set up in the school hall to let students choose which of the candidates they felt had earned their vote.
The Young Mayor is in office for one year and has a budget of £25,000 to spend on things to make life better for young people. Lewisham was the first council to have a directly-elected Young Mayor. The first vote was held in 2004. Anyone…

ARTSMARK GOLD
In June 2009 we received the brilliant news that St Matthew Academy has been awarded Artsmark Gold – the highest Artsmark award.
The Artsmark Gold award is in recognition of excellence in Drama, Music, Dance and Art. The Arts Council believe that ‘Artsmark sets the standard for outstanding arts offered in schools’.
Our students really enjoy using the arts to support their progress across the curriculum. We dedicate a minimum of 15% of curricular teaching time to the Arts. We have involvement will local artists such as Trinity College of Music, APT Gallery and Blackheath Conservatoire. St Matthew…
