Epiphany and beyond
Our New Year and Spring Term begin with The Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God – as Christians we are called to imitate Mary, our mother and model. We are called to say ‘yes’ to God’s plan for us, whatever it may be and wherever it may lead. We pray for the strength to say ‘yes’ to God in our life.
Each week at the Academy the students and staff reflect on the Sunday Gospel reading, Pope Benedict says of The Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord:‘Men and women of every generation need on their pilgrim journey to be directed: what star can we therefore follow? After coming to rest ‘over the place where the child was,’ the purpose of the star that guided the Magi ended, but its spiritual light is always present in the Word of the Gospel, which is still able to guide every person to Jesus.’
We then return to ‘ordinary time’ in the Church calendar which takes us to half term; each week we will reflect on the following Gospel readings:Sunday 15 January - second in year – Peace Day
John 1:35-42 We have found the Messiah.
Sunday 22 January - third in year
Mark 1:14-20 Repent and believe the Good News!
Sunday 29 January - fourth in year
Mark 1:21-28 You are the Holy one of God
Sunday 5 February - fifth in year – Education Day
Mark 1:29-39 He cured many who suffered
Sunday 12 February - sixth in year
Mark 1:40-45 Feeling sorry for him, Jesus touched him
Sunday 19 February - seventh in year – Day for the Unemployed
Mark 2:1-12 Your sins are forgiven
Join us in our readings and reflect on the meaning of the Gospel reading and how we can put the message into practice.
