Inspiring women
International Women's Day
On Tuesday 8 March 2011 we celebrated International Women's Day with an evening of inspiration for girls in years 7 to 11.
At the 'Enterprising women of the future' event TV journalist Charlene White, PR guru Jessica Huie and fashion designer Natasha Faith were among the inspirational women talking to girls about their stories of success. Also appearing at the event were Foluke Akinlose MBE from Precious Media who co-sponsored the evening, social entrepreneur Claudine Reid MBE, Annika Allen of Flavour magazine, Afua Adom of Pride Magazine, J's Dance Factory owner Jessica Elliott and internationally acclaimed make-up artist Eryca Freemantle.
Sitting in the audience alongside the St Matthew students were successful London businesswomen from Reuters, Citibank, the Twenty Ten Club and Urban Synergy, who are all giving their time free to help mentor and encourage our students. The event is part of the school’s Enterprise programme and is designed to introduce girls from all through the school to some of the many pathways to achievement open to them.

Girls from years 5 and 6 join women on the bridge
Also to mark International Women's Day, girls from our primary joined singer Annie Lennox in a special international celebration 'Join women on the bridge' on Millenium Bridge between St Paul's and the Tate Modern, to call for peace and women's development around the world.
