International primary curriculum

The IPC is an international curriculum providing a cross-curricular, thematic, rigorous teaching structure designed to engage children of all abilities in today’s world. The IPC encourages hands-on work and exploration, group activity and creative presentation. The IPC units of work incorporate the foundation subjects and science while enabling links to Literacy and Numeracy.  The activities are all interesting and the focus on one topic keeps the children engaged.  Its cross-curricular approach means that subjects are embedded within each unit. No longer are we stopping one lesson to move onto another that’s completely unrelated. Now it’s all about building on a theme and, as a result, the children become completely engaged.

The principle of the IPC is to focus on a combination of academic, personal, and international learning for children worldwide combined with innovative and exciting ways to learn. It is designed to help children:
  • Learn the essential knowledge, skills and understanding of a broad range of curriculum subjects
  • Engage with their learning so that they remain committed to learning throughout their school careers and their lives
  • Develop the personal qualities they need to be good citizens and to respond to the changing contexts of their future lives
  • Develop a sense of their own nationality and culture at the same time as developing a profound respect for the nationalities and cultures of others.

Children have the opportunity to have full access to the facilities available at St Matthew Academy through the teaching of this curriculum. Children begin each topic with an Entry Point which is made engaging and inspirational to capture the children’s interest. We use the Immersive room, drama studio, forest school and the expertise of Secondary Specialist teachers to ensure this is as fulfilling as possible.  In each unit the children have a trip or visit and are able to make use of the wealth of local amenities and sights which are on our doorstep.
