Students get sneak preview of housing development
Ever wondered what is going on behind those boards in Loampit Vale, opposite Lewisham Station? Construction students found out this week when they were given a unique opportunity to look round the enormous site that will eventually be the Renaissance Quarter of Lewisham, consisting of 788 new homes, a leisure centre with 25-metre pool, cafe, gym, health spa and climbing wall, shops and businesses.
The students were talked through the plans for the site by site manager David Levy who explained how it would take until 2015 for the work to be completed. They looked round the showflat and then saw the state-of-the-art heating plant that generates the power for all the occupants. After that students donned hard hats and steel toed boots to visit the actual construction site.
