Letter from Mrs Cross announcing her retirement

Dear Parents and Carers

After considerable thought and with mixed feelings I have informed the Governors of my intention to retire at the end of the current academic year.

Schools are constantly moving forward with new ideas and activities – so whenever you leave – it is always part way through something! However, at the end of this year, the first Year 7 cohort of St Matthew Academy will leave Year 11 having completed their secondary education. By the end of this year I will also have completed 40 years in education, over half of them as a Headteacher or Principal. For both these reasons – 2012 seems like an appropriate time for me to move on and allow my successor to take St Matthew Academy forward.

The post of Principal will be nationally advertised in January and by early March the Governors hope to be able to name the new Principal who will take over in September 2012.

In the meanwhile, while I am still the Principal I will continue to work hard with an excellent staff to ensure that the Academy continues on its successful path to excellence.

With best wishes

Monica Cross
