SMA hosts IPC conference
Over 70 delegates from around the world, including our own primary teachers, attended this year's International Primary Curriculum conference at St Matthew Academy.
St Matthew Academy was the first academy to adopt the IPC, which offers a thematic approach to primary education, based on what works to engage and enthuse our children's desire to learn.
Speakers included Mary Helen Immordino Yang, a world-leading neuroscientist from Harvard who led sessions on how the newest findings from neuroscience can help teachers understand how children learn.
Music teacher Raphael Tettey took part in the conference: 'The guys from the IPC shared such innovative ideas about learning it was a privilege to be there - neuroscience is set to bring fresh insight to teaching, and it has made me so excited about the future of learning for our young people.'
Monica Cross, principal of the academy, has been one of the earliest proponents of a more open and flexible way of learning for primary classes. She says: 'At St Matthew Academy we are committed to finding innovative approaches to educating children.'
