Year 5 lead Mass

On the morning of Tuesday 5th July, Year 5 students set off to Aylesford, to lead Mass at “The Friars”, an ancient religious house, that dates back to the 13th Century. The site now has over 1000 visitors a year and is a pilgrimage site for many Catholics, and so the students were honoured to be invited there.

Carl Fisher, our school Chaplain, led a fun day of events- including a session of outdoor games (thanks to the lovely weather!) and quieter, indoor sessions where the children were encouraged to reflect about God’s life and had the opportunity to perform some scenes from the Bible, which they had been practicing in class.

The most important part of the day for many of the students, and indeed the teachers, was leading Mass in the Chapel. The children had the chance to lead the singing of the hymns and gave readings and prayers.

The children thought the day was, “fantastic, because we did lots of fun activities and even got to make our own Rosary!”
