Top children's author visits St Matthew Academy
We were absolutely thrilled to welcome Cathy Cassidy to our school! Cathy is a top-selling author and much loved writer of fiction aimed primarily at girls aged 10 – 13 so there was great excitement surrounding her visit!
Cathy made the visit at the start of a promotional tour marking the release of her book Cherry Crush in paperback. Students from St Winifreds and St Saviours primary schools joined our students to make up an enthusiastic audience who listened to Cathy read extracts from the book and talk about her life and being a writer. She confessed to being a daydreamer at school but said that daydreaming encouraged creative ideas to develop. She urged students to let their imaginations flow and work hard at following their dreams.
At the end of the talk many students in years 5 and 6 took part in a mini fashion parade. They had dressed up as characters inspired from Cathy’s books and the costumes were amazing, making Cathy’s job of judging extremely difficult! The winning student was Kia-Miami from year 6 and the runner-up was Ashviny from year 5.
Cathy said how much we had enjoyed her visit to us. She commented that she had received a wonderful welcome and this was a fantastic start to her book tour!
