Top councillors give thumbs up to school lunches
Lewisham's deputy mayor Alan Smith and Helen Klier, the cabinet member for children and young people, came to sample our school lunches this week - as St Matthew Academy is the only secondary school in Lewisham to cook all breakfasts, snacks and lunches fresh in its own kitchens. They queued up with the juniors and Vice-principal Mr Cregan to choose from the day's meat and vegetarian main courses and the puddings.
"I was very impressed by the cash-free payments system for school lunches," said Councillor Helen Klier. "But above all, the lunch was delicious. There was a wide range of healthy foods available, a wide range of menus and the children were clearly enjoying their lunch. I hope to be invited again!"
Councillor Smith agreed: The school dinners at St. Matthew's are certainly a lot better than when I was at school. Good, healthy food, properly prepared means that students concentrate better, learn better and achieve better results; St. Matthew's proves this.
