Walk of peace 8

On Thursday 2 July, pupils from fifteen local primary schools, led by St Matthew Academy, Educating For Jimmy, local Councilors, Lewisham Police and Faith groups took park in the ‘Hello Lewisham Walk for Peace’. The walk saw pupils stopping at the Lewisham Hindu Temple, St Saviours Catholic Church, St Mary Church of England, Lewisham Mosque and Catford Synagogue. As well as Lewisham Police Station, Hospital and Town Hall. During the walk pupils held peace banners and handed out flowers at each of the community sites they visited.  The walk then ended in Mountsfield Park where pupils had a picnic, played sports and worked together to create a giant artwork.

The Foundation is working with seven Lewisham schools in our January to July cycle, with another eight signed up for September. Foundation For Jimmy works to build a legacy of peace in Jimmy’s memory and make young people safer. The Foundation runs programmes in schools across the country, provides youth employment and work experience through its cafés in Lewisham as well as having an active Young Citizens group.
