SMA Production Company (SMPC)

St Matthew Academy has a thriving award winning Production Company that is run by the students for the students.  The St Matthew Production company (SMPC) team is made up of students from Years 7-11 and enables students to get a vocational and professional understanding of the Media industry.  The company film and photograph whole school events, enter competitions, produce promotional films for schools and outside agencies, conduct assemblies for local primary school, support specialised projects with our Primary school and Summer Schools and produce royalty free music.

Videos produced by SMPC are showcased on our YouTube channel and photographs are on the schools Flickr site.  The Students in the team are encouraged to enter competitions and meet at break, lunch and after school to discuss their latest projects.  The Media Centre also has a number of external film and media companies coming in to work with the SMPC in order to give them a real world experience. 

In 2012 the SMPC won the 11-14 year old category nationwide ‘Be Creative’ Film Education competition.  Students involved were Tamara Jacks, Dylan Padilla, Ricky Sangalli Korletey, Wilfred De Ley (the core team) Armani Quarrington-Gray, Rishi Kommuri, Maxine Harrison, David Adesanya, Gejima Charles, Scott Childe and Ayowale Aladejana (the rest of the crew).  The core team of 4 won Ipads but the whole production company are invited to the awards ceremony at BAFTA central London and received Flip Cameras.  The school won £5000. 

‘The judges were delighted with their entry which they said was great fun, very well produced and showed excellent story-telling skills and a genuine love of film. The acting was also of a very high quality.

EMMA BULL – Film Education

The SMPC have had articles written about them in education executive, the Lasialian and the Mercury, their film ‘The Copyright Kid’ has been classified for cinema exhibition by the British Board of Film Classification, won awards at the National ‘Out of Your Hands’ competition and the Local ‘Stop and Search Know Your Rights Lewisham’ competition. They have been commissioned and worked with the Archdiocese of Southwark, XMA, Holy Cross, St Saviours, Reeldeal HD, Urban Synergy, The Fix up team, David Neita, Big Maths and Write, NHS, Spartan Fam, Rixton, Misha B, Rio Young, Daybreak, Naomi Harris and Dr Julius Garvey.
