SMA Oscars

The SMA OSCARS launched on the 3rd July 2013 with the Year 11 BTEC Creative Media Production Students vying for a range of prestigious awards.  Up for grabs were awards for Best Actor, Actress, Direction, Editing, Cinematography, Teamwork, Film, Media Student of the Year and SMA Audience Award.  The event showcased seven films produced by St Matthew Academy students whilst on the BTEC Extended Certificate in Creative Media Production.  All students worked exceptionally on the production of these films and this can be seen by the high level production values and professional quality.  Students were encouraged to be experimental and utilise a range of film making techniques.  The end results were enjoyed at the SMA OSCARS.  The student film makers arrived in tuxedos and ball gowns sipping their Schloer and nibbling on their popcorn, whilst discussing the films with industry professionals, VIP’s and parents.  Muazu Issa and their teacher Mr Simpson presented with a professional charm as the films were shown, award winners collected their gongs and the audience was moved and amused by some interesting acceptance speeches.  ‘Mute’ cleaned up winning Best Actor, Actress, Direction, Film and the audience award, ‘Dreams Can come true’ won Best Group, ‘Kwick and Kareless’ received Best Editing and Best Cinematography went to ‘An inch away from death’.  Xavier Underhill received Media Student of the Year and a very special award ‘Tantrum of the year’ was collected by La-Shai Barnes in true diva style. The event was a huge success and much deserved for a cohort who achieved a 100% pass rate, which included 11 Distinction*’s, 4 Distinctions, 9 Merits and 5 Passes.  The Media Centre wishes you all the best for the future.
