The Science and Technology faculty covers science, DT, product design, textiles and catering.
All sutdents do science and technology from years 1 to 8. They then choose to continue technology subjects if they are interested and show promise. Science is continued to year 11 for everyone.
Apart from the full complement of science disciplines, what unites the subjects we teach is that they make use of applied science. They combine science and technology in the aim that students will create and understand the workings of useful products that are innovative and creative.
We want students to learn and enjoy what they learn, and put on a variety of different activities, trips and programmes to enhance the curriculum for students throughout the school.
We run a weekly STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) club for year 6 which is very well attended. For older students we have started a hi-tech Formula 1 engineering project. Trips include visits to the Natural History Museum, London Zoo, the science museum, the Wellcome Collection, the cinema, the Royal Albert Hall and to Greenwich Observatory masterclasses.
Our 'Growing Doctors' is a groundbreaking programme to give our students a route into medical school.
We also contribute to other school activities such as fashion week and drama productions, plus put on our own Enterprise activities such as space week, and the 'Science of Curry' night.
