Primary School Partnership Competition win
Congratulations to all the students and Ms Toprak for their achievement in the School Partnership Competition. Students competed in  a variety of events designed to build and introduce the skills needed for track and field. Jumping, throwing, hurdling, baton passing and running were all tested. Our students won their partnership round – against three other primaries in the scheme – and went on to beat the Knights partnership champions to become winners of this region. They will now compete at regional level.

Year 7 boys football v Thomas More
A hard fought game for the Year 7 football team which ended in a 7-2 defeat. Notable performances from Diego and Richard, who both grabbed their first goal for St Matthew Academy. Debutants included Charles Whitewood and Diego Sotelo.

Year 7 netball v Prendergast Hillyfields
The girls played their first netball match ever and thoroughly enjoyed it. They had a great game - they learned a lot and had many chances at goal. The final score was 1-0 to Hillyfields but a victory for netball at St Matthew Academy. The year 7 team have four fixtures coming up after half term.

Year 8 Sports Hall Athletics
A fun-packed evening saw the Year 8 Sports Hall Athletics team compete against teams from Sedgehill, Sydenham and the hosts Knights Academy. The boys finished second overall and the girls third after a hard-fought competition. Special mention goes to Andres who absolutely stormed the six-lap individual race.

Year 8 football
The boys are training hard for their first two fixtures coming up in the Blackheath District League. They face Prendergast Ladywell Fields on Thursday 9 February and Deptford Green on Friday 24 February.

Year 10 football v Prendergast Ladywell Fields
Although beaten comprehensively in the quarter final of the Blackheath Cup (Prendergast won 7-1) there was much to be enouraged about as well. St Matthew enjoyed periods of the game were they kept possesion of the ball for up to 10 or 12 passes. All players tried to play a pass and move the game on that at times made one wonder how the score line ended up as it did. Good performances from Jordy Luvovadio and Antwon Mckenzie in midfield.
