Student council report

The student council was set up to be the voice of students in school, so that students can play their part in raising issues that can contribute to improving the school.

Elections were held last term. so that students could choose their own representatives. Fifteen secondary school representatives were elected, one in each house in every year, and two primary representatives were elected from year 6.

Representatives met Mrs Cross and other senior teachers for the first time at the end of last term, to discuss a number of issues raised by the student body. These were:

  1. Starting a Christian Club
It was agreed that the chaplains would support students in setting one up for students of all faiths.

  2. Improving behaviour (specifically anti-bullying campaigns and peer mentor scheme).

A suggestion box will be placed in reception for students to offer suggestions as to how to improve behaviour and refer issues of bullying. Raffle tickets for good corridor behaviour will be reintroduced.

  3. Playground resources for prmary
Students want a rota for different games at set times. Mrs Cross explained that there are many playground resources in available in the wooden hut.

  4. Uniform - students want to be able to wear their own coats.
It was agreed that students could wear plain black or navy blue coats or jackets while the weather is cold. No other colours are acceptable.

  5. Any other business
Year 11 common room - a lack of space makes this unlikely
New gym - work will soon begin on building the new sports hall
Litter - staff concerned about the amount of litter. Students reminded not to eat in the North Block.
